Where our oil comes from

Most fish oil capsules are made from a blend of different fish oils which producers may buy from a variety of countries. Due to a lack of regulation and the unknown purity of the oil, it must undergo deodorization and "molecular distillation" to ensure the absence of undesirable odors and contaminants. During these processes, standard fish oils are heated to temperatures in excess of 150 degrees C, which can degrade omega-3.

Molecular distillation is also used to concentrate the two most well know fatty acids in the Omega-3 family (EPA and DHA), altering their relative proportions and removing other essential fatty acids. This changes the fish oil into something far removed from its whole food origins.

Our proprietary cold-pressed process

In contrast, our proprietary low temperature, cold-pressed oil extraction process is gentle to the oil to keep the full spectrum of Omega-3s intact. Our complete salmon oil includes high quantities of EPA and DHA plus 6 other essential fatty acids found in salmon. It also contains oil soluble micro-nutrients like vitamins, antioxidants, bio-flavinoids, and carotenoids. While not as well known as Omega-3, these oil soluble micro-nutrients play essential roles in our bodies. Click here for an analysis of our oil.

Ever get a fishy tasting burp after taking a fish oil capsule? When fish starts to smell or fish oil starts to taste fishy, it's because it’s oxidized (the technical term for spoiled). Oxygen is an unsaturated fat’s worst enemy as the unsaturated bonds have a strong natural tendency to saturate with oxygen. Alaska salmon oil is highly resistant to oxidization due to its naturally high levels of anti-oxidants such as vitamin E and astaxanthin. Through careful control of temperature and minimal exposure to light in our food-grade process, our softgels will never taste fishy. That means NO FISHY BURPS!

Sustainable Salmon Harvest

While other west coast salmon fisheries have collapsed, Alaska salmon are naturally abundant and wild salmon populations have swelled to such a point that annual salmon returns continue to break all time records. Good resource management and natural habitat protection by the State of Alaska has led to the Alaska salmon success story.

Alaska's constitution is unique in that an entire section is devoted to the management of natural resources. To protect it's fisheries, the state created the Alaska Board of Fisheries (BOF). It's responsible for maintaining the health of all Alaska's fisheries including setting limits on each seasons salmon harvest to insure no over-fishing. In fact, Alaska’s wild salmon fishery is the first major fishery in the world to obtain the Marine Stewardship Councils’ (MSC) coveted “Certificate of Sustainability”.

The Marine Stewardship Council is an independent, global, non-profit organization which was set up to find a solution to the problem of overfishing. The MSC works to safeguard the world’s seafood supply by promoting the best environmental choice. That's why only wild-caught, Alaska salmon certified sustainable by the MSC are used in the manufacturer of the ultra-high quality, unrefined salmon oil.

Straight from the Source
Salmon fishing is a hallowed tradition in Alaska. Up before the dawn, these fisherman have a limited time to bring in their fresh catch.

Alaskan Venturer
Our Alaska Salmon Oil production occurs on board a one-of-a-kind, 260 foot x 60 foot processing vessel, the Alaskan Venturer. It operates seasonally in a variety of Alaskan ports where ever large-scale Alaska salmon processing occurs.

We receive, handle, store, and process all raw materials under the guidelines set forth in our Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point plan (HACCP) which includes strict sanitation operating procedures and principals. Although not required to do so for the manufacture of dietary supplements, we voluntarily operate under the U.S. Food & Drug Administrations’ HACCP regulations.
